Looking Back In Recent Times   In response to Jill Ball's request for Accentuate the Positive Geneameme 2021 an annual reflection...so here is my attempt. 1. I got the most joy from: Researching Family History.  This has always been my passion, since I was set a task to make my family tree the first year in secondary school. I absolutely panicked, with a German father I was so concerned as I knew so little. On the other hand my mother's family wasn't so unknown.  My maternal grandmother came to my rescue with booklets that she had purchased on her visits to Tasmania, where her father was born. I hadn't realised that his father had been a convict. WoW!!! From that moment I was 'hooked'... This was way, way, way, before the Internet and even microfiche readers were available.. The  genealogical certificate  (Abstammungsurkunde) was a 'civil status' document made under German law.  It was created to prove the birth of a child and it differed (ever so slightly) from a actual Birth Certificate. It's main purpose (of the genealogical certificate) was to determine marriage bans with adopted children. This became just another example of excess paperwork, and the genealogical certificate was abolished in Germany on the 1 January, 2009 by the 'Civil Status Law Reform Act'. So. Genealogical certificates were issued up until the 31 December, 2008 by the civil registry office that had certified the birth. Contained on the certificate, amongst other things, was the name of the child, the child's sex, date of birth, place of birth, and the parents' names. Also contained on the certificate were any changes listed  that may have occurred since the birth of the child, for example, the adoption of the child and/or any name changes. Genealog...

" these words were hauntingly beautiful when I heard them today and I sadly remembered that on this day eleven years ago...my father passed away, suddenly. There were no goodbyes, in an instant he was on his next journey, without me. We had shared a unique experience back in 1975/76 when we visited the area of his birth Bamberg , Germany. DANIEL FRANK KELLY   1886 - 1916 'No Known Grave' Photo supplied by Maggie Goss     Daniel Frank Kelly   was born in November 1886 in Sebastian, Victoria, Australia .                 The eldest child and son of Michael Kelly and Margaret Mary Mulvahill, Daniel was a hard working lad and was working as a Butcher at A W Brown Butcher Marong, Victoria, Australia,  in 1913.  He was also involved in the Hibernian Australian Catholic Benefit Society (HACBS) a church based support network that had been established by Irish immigrants.
